The Maine Mariners acquired defenseman Theo Calvas from the Kalamazoo Wings on Tuesday afternoon in exchange for future considerations. This trade completes the deal made at the end of 2024 with the Savannah Ghost Pirates, where the Mariners received forward Lynden McCallum and a future asset in exchange for forward Patrick Guay.

The 26-year-old from Michigan has been in the ECHL for over six years and played over 200 games, amassing more than 230 regular-season career points. So far this season with Kalamazoo, he has played in 20 games, registering five points (1G, 4A). In the previous three seasons with the Kansas City Mavericks, Calvas posted back-to-back seasons of 20+ points.

During the 2024 Kelly Cup Playoffs with the Kansas City Mavericks, Theo Calvas played in 18 games. He recorded a goal and three assists, totaling four points, along with two penalty minutes. His performance was crucial in helping the Mavericks through the playoffs, showcasing his defensive skills and ability to contribute offensively when needed.

Calvas made his professional debut with the Toledo Walleye in the 2018-19 season and has also suited up for the Allen AmericansTulsa Oilers, and the Florida Everblades. Before joining the ECHL, he played in the Ontario Hockey League with the Soo Greyhounds, Sarnia Sting, and North Bay Battalion.

Most of Maine’s recent transactions have been for cash considerations instead of trades. The Mariners seem to have solidified their roster and are now just adding on. Calvas will join the Maine Mariners next weekend for their three-game series versus the Norfolk Admirals at the Scope Arena. The Mariners will be home again at the beginning of March to play Reading at Cross Insurance Arena.
