The Maine Mariners put defenseman Jason Horvath on waivers today. Horvath, 24, has been on the Mariners a few times, the first time during the 2021-22 season. During his rookie year with Maine, Horvath had one goal and 12 assists in the almost 40 games he appeared in. The next season, Horvath was traded to Trois-Rivieres Lions and had one goal and four assists in a 16-game time frame. Then, he was sent to the Rapid City Rush, where he would rack up 10 GP (three assists).
Before his professional career, Horvath spent four seasons in the QMJHL. He played two seasons with the Shawinigan Cataractes and two more with the Halifax Mooseheads, where he served as an alternate captain in his final year.
Before returning to the Mariners in 2023, Horvath played for Gyergyól HK, which is part of the Estre Liga, a professional hockey league in Romania. He did well there, getting 12 GP (one goal, two assists) in his first season and 14 GP(two goals, four assists) in the second season.
Horvath has had quite an average performance this season, playing in only ten games. Now that Horvath has been put on waivers, only time will tell if he will be taken by another organization or go back to playing in Europe, which he did for part of the 2023-2024 season. Hopefully, Horvath will find a permanent home soon, as most of his professional career has been bumping around different teams and leagues. As of right now, it does not look like Horvath is on any team’s radar, and not many defensemen are available on waivers, so the near future will give the hockey world a better idea of where Horvath’s journey will take him.
