The Maine Mariners have announced that they have re-signed defenseman Alex Sheehy for the 2024-25 season. Sheehy, 26, is entering his second season of pro hockey after having an injury-shortened year last season where he played in just 35 games, putting up six assists. Despite playing in just 35 games last season, he currently has the most games played in a Mariners uniform among defensemen who are currently signed. He is the fourth defenseman and 15th player to sign with the Mariners for the 2024-25 season.
“I’m really excited to be back in Portland for another season,” said Sheehy. “Last season was a great experience playing in front of such passionate fans. The Mariners are a first class organization and it was an easy decision to come back to Portland.”

Sheehy would also take home a silver medal with the USA during the 2023 FISU Winter Games. He would put up three assists in seven games and led the tournament in +/- (+14). The right-handed shooting defenseman would also spend two seasons in the NCDC with the Connecticut Jr. Rangers and Jersey Hitmen, putting up two goals and 28 assists for 30 points in 88 games before heading to the NCAA.
