The Maine Mariners have re-signed forward Brooklyn Kalmikov for the 2023-24 season. Kalmikov will be entering his third season in the ECHL and second with the Mariners. Prior to making the jump to the ECHL level, the Newfoundland native spent five seasons in the QMJHL, where he put up 108 goals and 104 assists for 212 points in 273 games while spending time with the Cape Brenton Eagles, Victoriaville Tigres, and Moncton Wildcats. Kalmikov would sign his first pro deal in 2022 with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins but would play in only three games with the Penguins, as the majority of his rookie season would be spent with the Wheeling Nailers. In 66 games with the Nailers, he would put up 23 goals and 29 assists for 52 points; he finished second on the Nailers in points and would be tied for first in assists.

“The coaching staff there, and all the staff around the team are incredible,” said Kalmikov. “And the fans cheering us all year is pretty fun. We always have good crowds even on weekdays. The people around the city are amazing too.”

Kalmikov signed last season with the Mariners and scored 21 goals and 28 assists for 49 points in 68 games. He also scored a goal and an assist in seven Kelly Cup Playoff Games. He finished third in regular-season points, goals, and assists for the Mariners. Looking ahead to next season, Kalmikov should once again be an important piece for Maine after showing that his rookie numbers weren’t a fluke and that he can be a guy who can put up 20+ goals a season.
