The Maine Mariners have announced that they have re-signed defenseman Jason Horvath for the 2024-25 season. Horvath, 24, joined the Mariners for his second stint in Portland last January after beginning the season in Romania, where he put up three goals and seven assists for 10 points in 26 games. The Russell, Ontario defenseman would play in 19 games with the Mariners last season, putting up four assists. Horvath is entering his fourth season in the ECHL as he’s played with the Rapid City Rush, Trois-Rivieres Lions, and Maine Mariners, putting up two goals and 23 assists for 25 points in 82 games. He would be traded to the Wheeling Nailers during the 2022 off-season but wouldn’t play in any games with the Nailers. For the Mariners, Horvath becomes the third defenseman to return to the Mariners for the 2024-25 season, joining Christian Sarlo and Alex Sheehy. Heading into next season, you can expect Horvath to be a depth defenseman for the Mariners.
“For me, it was an easy decision to come back and play for the Mariners,” said Horvath. “I love this city, this organization, the coaching staff, and my teammates, but what tops it off is playing in front of the best fans in the league. I am very excited to get things going with this new group of guys.”
