The Maine Mariners have announced that forward William Provost is being traded to the Wheeling Nailers for future considerations. The 21-year-old Senneterre, Quebec native has been with the Mariners since January 3rd when he was traded to the team from the Cincinnati Cyclones. Provost never actually played with Cincinnati, though. Initially, the Allen Americans and the Cincinnati Cyclones had a trade which included a future consideration being sent from Allen to Cincinnati. Later, Maine traded forward Tim Doherty to Cincinnati in return for a future consideration. Allen then sent Provost to Cincinnati, and they immediately sent him to Maine before he was able to play with the Cyclones.
Provost played a total of 26 games with the Mariners, and in this time, he scored four goals and had seven assists. Provost only began playing in the ECHL in the 2022-2023 season. He played six games with the Fort Wayne Komets and earned five points, and he also played in four playoff games with them that season, where he scored one goal. He stayed with the Komets at the beginning of the 2023-2024 season for three games before becoming a part of the Allen Americans’ roster. He had 10 points in 15 games with them before coming to the Mariners. Provost will now be going on to play with his 4th ECHL team within two seasons.
Maine has also acquired forward Bennett Stockdale. Maine will be the first team he’s playing with in the ECHL, as he is coming off three years playing at SUNY-Plattsburgh in New York. In the 2021-2022 season, he had 29 points in 23 games. The following season, he had 26 points in 28 games. This season before coming to the Mariners, he had 36 points in 28 games. Stockdale may be what the Mariners need to help them climb back up the standings and make it to the playoffs.
