With the ECHL trade deadline fast approaching this coming Thursday, March 21st, teams across the league are seeing a lot of movement within their rosters, and the Mariners are no exception to this. Two Mariners players have been called up to the Providence Bruins: forward Jimmy Lambert and defenseman Ryan Mast. In 35 games with the Mariners, Lambert has earned 34 points. Mast currently stands at 3rd when it comes to defenseman on the Mariners with 15 points. Mast was called up to Providence on the 9th, sent back down on the 17th, and is now heading back up.
The Mariners have also announced the signing of Christian Sarlo. The 22-year-old forward is from Lynbrook, NY. Sarlo was most recently a part of the Penn State hockey team, where he’s spent the last four years. This is the same as another of the Mariners’ most recent signings, forward Xander Lamppa. Within this season with Penn State, Sarlo had two goals and six assists in 25 games.
A trade was completed between the Mariners and the Savannah Ghost Pirates, where the Mariners have recieved forward Sebastian Vidmar in exchange for future considerations. The 30-year-old from Malmö, Sweden, has a decent amount of experience within the ECHL compared to most of the Mariners’ recently signed players, who are fresh off their college hockey careers. Vidmar has played in 50 games with the Ghost Pirates this season and has 23 points. The 2015-2016 season marked Vidmar’s first season at Union College, where he played for four seasons. At the end of his final college season in 2018-2019, he played one game with the Stockton Heat of the AHL. He was then a part of the Norfolk Admirals for the entirety of the 2019-2020 season, where he had 23 points in 42 games. In the 2020-2021 and part of the 2021-2022 seasons, Vidmar played back in his home country of Sweden. He then finished the 2021-2022 season with the Adirondack Thunder, where he had 43 points in 59 games. He stayed with the Thunder the following season, where he had 36 points in 47 games. He also played in five Kelly Cup Playoff games with the team and had four assists. That season, he was also called up to the Utica Comets and played three games but had no points. Most recently, this season, he’s played for the Savannah Ghost Pirates for 50 games and has had eight goals and 15 assists.
With the trade deadline fast approaching, there are sure to be at least a few more moves within the Mariners’ roster. By Thursday afternoon, there should be a strong, polished roster going into Maine’s three-game weekend versus the Newfoundland Growlers.
