Defenseman Martin Has is heading back home to Czechia on a try-out agreement with HC Plezn after spending the last three years in North America, including the last two years in the ECHL with the Fort Wayne Komets and South Carolina Stingrays, where he’s put up four goals and 13 assists for 17 points in 112 games, he would put up two assists in four games during the 2022 Kelly Cup Playoffs with the Stingrays. He is the fifth player from the Fort Wayne Komets to take the overseas route since the season ended, joining goaltender Tyler Parks along with forwards Ture Linden, Zach Andrusiak, and Brogan O’Brien.
The 23-year-old defenseman would play 20 games with the Guelph Storm and a game with the North Bay Battalion of the OHL during the 2019-20 season, where he had six assists. Has would also spend the 2021-22 season in Canada, this time in the QMJHL with the Shawinigan Cataractes, where he put up eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points in 52 games as he would win a QMJHL Championship in Shawinigan; he wouldn’t be able to find the scoresheet in four games during the Memorial Cup.
The former fifth-round pick of the Washington Capitals in 2015 also spent three years playing in Finland while representing Czechia on the national stage numerous times. He would also win back-to-back U16 Championships in 2016 and 2017 with HC Sparta Praha and play with their 18U team before going to play in Finland.
