
Bloomington Bison defenseman Matt Staudacher is heading overseas to England to join the Leeds Knights of the NIHL after putting up a goal and eight assists for nine points in 39 games. Staudacher began the 2024-25 season in Italy with Brixen/Bressanone, where he had 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points in 19 games before joining Bloomington. The 25-year-old blueliner was one of 19 defensemen to suit up for the Bison in their inaugural season. He becomes the second player to take the overseas route from Bloomington, joining defenseman Evan Stella. Staudacher was one of eight defensemen on the Bloomington’s Protected list.
Prior to going pro, the Grand Rapids, Michigan native spent two seasons in the USHL with the Muskegon Lumberjacks. In 99 games with the Lumberjacks, he put up two goals and 15 assists for 17 points. He wore a letter in his second season with the Lumberjacks. He would also see action in 11 playoff games at the USHL level, but couldn’t find the scoresheet. After playing two seasons in the USHL, Matt Staudacher went on to play four seasons at the NCAA level, including three seasons with the University of Minnesota, before spending his final year of eligibility at Northeastern University. In 96 games with the Golden Gophers, he had one goal and 15 assists for 16 points. The Golden Gophers won the B1G Championship in 2021 and followed it up with a regular-season championship in 2022. In 31 games with the Huskies, he would put up two goals and two assists for four points.
