Defenseman Matt Stief is heading overseas to play in the EIHL with the Glasglow Clan after spending the last three seasons in the ECHL with the Idaho Steelheads and Adirondack Thunder, where he put up eight goals and 71 assists for 79 points in 190 games and led all Thunder defenseman in points in each of the past two seasons. He would add two assists in 12 Kelly Cup Playoff games with the Thunder. The 28-year-old defenseman was recently traded from Adirondack to Orlando in exchange for Kurt Gosselin and would later sign with the Solar Bears for the upcoming season.
Stief began his career in the BCHL, where he spent two years with the Prince George Spruce Kings. In 109 games, he scored eight goals and added 68 assists for 76 points. He led all defensemen on the Spruce Kings in assists (30) during the 2014-15 season and led the whole team in points the following season (43). Stief then spent four years at the NCAA level with Canisius College, where he put up five goals and 55 assists for 60 points in 133 NCAA games. In his final year at Canisius, he would be named an alternate captain and would lead all defensemen with three goals and 23 assists for 26 points in 36 games. Before making the jump to the ECHL, the Boca Raton, Florida native would spend a year in the SPHL with the Macon Mayhem, where he put up one goal and six assists for seven points in 34 games.
