
Indy Fuel forward Matus Spodniak is heading back home to Slovakia to join HK Dulka Michalovce after spending his first three seasons in North America. Spodniak spent the majority of last season with the Fuel, putting up six goals and seven assists for 13 points in 46 games. During the 2025 Kelly Cup Playoffs, he had one goal in four games. He had one goal in six games in the AHL with the Rockford IceHogs. Spodniak becomes the eighth player from the Fuel to take the overseas route since the season ended.
The 27-year-old forward joined the Fuel at the end of the 2022-23 season, where he had one goal in four games. The following season, he would put up nine goals and 11 assists for 20 points in 48 games while adding one assist in two games during the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Prior to going pro, he played five years at the NCAA level. He spent his first three years at American International, where he played in just seven games with the Yellow Jackets. Spodniak would spend his final two seasons at Adrian College, where he would find his game. In 60 games with the Bulldogs, he put up 46 goals and 48 assists for 94 points. In 2022, the Bulldogs won the National Championship. The following season, Spodniak put up 29 goals and 28 assists for 57 points in 31 games and would be named the DIII Player of the Year. He was a part of a Championship Team in all four years that he played in the NCAA
