The new management of the Lions of Trois-Rivières did not take time to make their first important move.
Indeed, as soon as the signing market opened, the Lions announced that they had signed team captain Cedric Montminy.
The one who had cast doubt on a possible return to the team finally decided to sign a new agreement following the announcement of a change in team management. In addition, as mentioned at a press conference by the new general manager, the signing of Montminy helps to solidify the heart of the team, and the latter will also be called upon when the time comes to make player choices in view of the next season.
In two seasons as Lions captain, Cedric had 38 goals and 46 assists in 126 games with the team while racking up a total of 193 penalty minutes.
We continue the experience.
As a second signing, the staff decided to continue in the Quebec line by signing a player who did well at the end of the season, and I am talking here about William Lemay. The Marieville native made the jump to ECHL after a 4-season journey at the University of Vermont.
In 14 games with the Lions, the number 8 of the Lions obtained a total of four goals and four assists for eight points and managed to maintain a record of -3 with a team that was struggling. He is, therefore, the type of relentless player who takes risks but who doesn’t cost too much to the team.
During his university career, the Quebecer obtained a total of 11 goals and 21 assists for a total of 32 points in 85 games for the University of Vermont.
A Latvian to solidify the defensive
The latest signing to date for the Lions is that of Brass defender Markuss Komuls. After playing a few seasons with the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, the right-handed defenseman joined the Trois-Rivières Lions for the last 11 games of the season.
Solid defensively despite a smaller size, the 25-year-old defender had three assists while maintaining an impressive +6 differential. An excellent base to build a defense that will help us go far this season.
In three seasons with the University Of Alaska, the right-hander had eight goals, 14 assists for a total of 22 points, and a differential of +14 in 100 games.
In the management, we trust
In summary, the Trois-Rivières Lions, led by Pascal Rhéaume, have started the reconstruction work in the right way by bringing back players who were able to help the team last season.
Now, it only remains to see what the leaders will do a little later in the summer, especially in net. Let’s not forget that we must also look at the direction in which the Montreal Canadiens are heading for youth development.
