The Idaho Steelheads have announced that they have re-signed 5’9″ forward Nick Canade for the 2025-26 season.

Junior Career

Nick Canade started his junior career in the 2017-18 season. The Mississauga, Ontario native spent three seasons in the OHL with the Mississauga Steelheads where he was an alternate captain in his final two seasons. In 177 games with the Steelheads, Canade had 29 goals and 47 assists for 76 points with 198 penalty minutes and a -9.

Professional Career

Canade then went overseas to start his professional career in Finland. Canade spent two seasons in Finland, playing in the U20 SM-sarja with the KOOVEE U20 and Sport U20, as well as RoKi and KOOVEE in Mestis. While playing in U20 SM-sarja, Canade played in ten games where he had two goals and one assist for three points with 35 penalty minutes and a -8. During his time in Mestis, he played in 53 games where he had three goals and 16 assists for 19 points with 98 penalty minutes and a -2. In 12 playoff games, Canade registered two goals and five assists for seven points with 45 penalty minutes and a -4.

After Canade spent two seasons overseas, he came back to North America and signed in the ECHL with the Idaho Steelheads. During his time with the Steelheads, Canade has played in 167 games where he has 27 goals and 36 assists for 63 points with 268 penalty minutes and a +21. In 18 playoff games, he has one goal and five assists for six points with 38 penalty minutes and a -1.

Canade is not a big player, but he has a big presence on the ice. Canade is not afraid to stick up for his teammates, whether it is laying a hit or dropping his glove, even if the opposing player is a lot bigger than him. With Canade’s size and speed, he is able to get up and down the ice very quick, helping his team on offense and defense.
