The Trois-Rivieres Lions have announced that they’ve signed Nicolas Guay for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. Guay, 25, began the season overseas in Slovakia with HC Nove Zamky, where he wore an “A” while putting up two goals and three assists for five points in 11 games. Prior to going overseas, he played 16 games with the Abbotsford Canucks at the end of the 2021-22 season and then spent two seasons with the Lions, where he put up 23 goals and 47 assists for 70 points in 108 games. He would also add two goals and two assists for four points in six games during the 2024 Kelly Cup Playoffs. I would expect Guay to start as a fourth liner for the Lions but should work his way into the middle six of the Lions lineup once he gets his groove back with the Lions. This should be a good fit for both sides for the rest of the season, and hopefully, it will spark a Lions team that has gone 4-3-1 in their first eight games this season.
Prior to going pro, the Chateauguay, Quebec native spent five seasons in the QMJHL with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens, Drummondville Voltigeurs, Saint Johns Sea Dogs, and Rimuski Oceanic where he had 109 goals and 131 assists for 240 points in 266 games. After he finished his time in the QMJHL, Guay would spend one season at the University of New Brunswick, where he put up 14 goals and 11 assists for 25 points in just 18 games as the Reds would win a USports Championship.
