The Kansas City Mavericks will be without one of their top scorers next season as center Nolan Walker is heading overseas to Sweden for the 2024-25 season. Walker is coming off a great season with the Mavericks, where he put up 34 goals and 34 assists for 68 points in 63 games during the regular season and added six goals and seven assists for 13 points during the 2024 Kelly Cup Playoffs; he would also play in four games at the AHL with the Cleveland Monsters but failed to find the scoresheet. Prior to joining the Mavericks, Walker spent his rookie season with the Newfoundland Growlers, where he put up 15 goals, and 26 assists for 41 points in 68 games and added four goals and three assists for seven points during the 2023 Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Anchorage, Alaska native spent his collegiate career at St.Cloud State University, where he put up 31 goals and 56 assists for 87 points in 135 games.
This is yet another big loss for the Mavericks, as they have now lost three of their top five goal-scorers from last season, as Jacob Hayhurst and Jeremy McKenna both took the overseas route this off-season. Heading into next season, the Mavericks will look to add some firepower up front as they have already added some firepower on the backend as they brought back defenseman Marcus Crawford. Walker is the second player to join IK Oskarshamn from the ECHL last season, joining Michael Joyaux from the Toledo Walleye.
