The Norfolk Admirals have announced that they’ve re-signed defenseman Jaden Shields for the 2025-26 season. Shields, 25, began last season with the Kalamazoo Wings, where he had two assists in nine games before being traded to Norfolk. In 23 games with the Admirals, he had two goals and eight assists for 10 points. He becomes the fourth defenseman and 12th player to sign with the Admirals for the 2025-26 season.
Prior to going pro, the Royal Oak, Michigan native spent four seasons in the NCAA with Adrian College. Shields made a name for himself out of the gate, being named the NCHA Freshman of the year as he put up four goals and 17 assists for 21 points in 23 games. In his final year with the Bulldogs, he would be named the NCHA Player of the Year, putting up 11 goals and 28 assists for 39 points in 32 games. Adrian won two NCHA Championships during Shields’ time there, including a National Championship in 2022. Shields finished his college career with 24 goals and 97 assists for 121 points in 110 games. He put up three assists at the end of the 2023-24 season with the Tulsa Oilers.
“Jaden Shields supplied us offensive skill from the back end in January when we had injuries and call-ups,” said Jeff Carr, Admirals General Manager and Head Coach. “He was used around as a Swiss Army knife, playing forward and defense on big road stretches.”
