ECHL: Norfolk Admirals Denis Smirnov Named Player Of the Week

The ECHL has announced that Norfolk Admirals forward Denis Smirnov has been named the Player of the Week for March 18-24. Smirnov finished the week with three goals and six assists for nine points in four games last week for the Admirals. The Russian forward has not only had a great week for the Admirals but has been on fire in his last ten games, putting up five goals and 10 assists for 15 points. Smirnov is in his third season in the ECHL and has spent the last two years with the Admirals after spending his rookie season with the Kalamazoo Wings as he’s put up 25 goals and 42 assists for 67 points in 113 games and is currently having a career year with 14 goals and 27 assists for 41 points in 47 games this season.

Prior to joining the Admirals, Smirnov spent four years playing at Penn State where he put up 50 goals and 65 assists for 115 points in 137 games. The 26-year-old defenceman was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the sixth round of the 2017 NHL Draft.
