The Norfolk Admirals have announced Keegan Iverson will return for his second season as an Admiral for the 2024-25 ECHL regular season. Iverson came over to the Admirals last summer to fulfill a future considerations trade with the Rapid City Rush.
“I am super excited to be back in Norfolk for next season,” Iverson said. “I’m excited to get back to work with the boys and build off all the good things we did together last year.” – Via Admirals press release
Iverson played 44 regular-season games last season with the Admirals. In those 44 games, he scored six goals, five assists, and a +7 goal differential rating. He also reached a career-high in penalty minutes, collecting 169, which was second among Admirals’ players behind Mark Liwiski.
Iverson has four years of experience in the ECHL. In those four seasons, Iverson had played 189 regular season games between the Manchester Monarchs, Indy Fuel, Rush, and Admirals. He has notched 16 goals and 33 assists. He has played 17 games during the Kelly Cup Playoffs, split between the Admirals (7), Rush (7), and Monarchs (3). He has one goal and one assist to his name in the postseason, as well as 36 PIMs. However, it is not his goal-scoring abilities that he is known for. Iverson is a very gritty player, having amassed 451 penalty minutes throughout his ECHL career.
Prior to turning pro, Iverson played major juniors in the Western Hockey League for the Portland Winterhawks. In five full seasons, Iverson played 293 regular season games, collecting 80 goals and 110 assists, along with 382 PIMs. Throughout the playoffs, Iverson has played 71 games, collecting nine goals and 16 assists. In the 2012-13 season, Iverson and the Winterhawks won the WHL championship. In his final two seasons, Iverson would be named an assistant captain (2015-16 season) and captain (2016-17). His final season was his best one as he recorded career highs in goals (26), assists (44), points (70), and PIMs (94).
Iverson earned an opportunity with the Ontario Reign in the AHL during the 2017-18 season. He played 11 games with the Reign, collecting one goal and a +5 rating, but spent the rest of the season down in the ECHL with the Monarchs. Iverson would choose to go back to school and attend Mount Royal University in USports. In two seasons with Mount Royal, Iverson played 30 games, notching seven goals and 17 assists.
As head coach and general manager Jeff Carr stated in the Admiral’s press release, “He supplied scoring on the rush at times along with a physical presence and stability playing up and down the lineup.” To be a big factor, Iverson will have to continue being that versatile player that can play anywhere in the lineup and be a physical presence.
