The Norfolk Admirals announced today they have re-signed Sean Montgomery for the 2024-25 ECHL season. He spent the first part of last season with the Liege Bulldogs in the BeNeLiga, which is the top-tier professional league in Belgium and the Netherlands. While with the Bulldogs, he played 21 games, posting 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points. After transitioning to pro hockey in North America, Montgomery’s point production dropped, having tallied just nine points (6g-3a) in 26 games.
”I’m looking forward to getting back to Norfolk and getting to work with the team,” Montgomery said. “There was a buzz around the arena and town last year so hopefully we can build off that support the fans gave us and build something special.”

The Anchorage, AK product was a huge part of the Admirals’ penalty killing last season. Head coach (HC) and General Manager (GM) Jeff Carr had high praise for the 26-year-old.
“He was relied heavily on switching from wing to center and solidified out top-two groups on the penalty kill.”

Carr also stated he feels as though Montgomery can have a 15-goal season and provide more offense this season.
Prior to starting his pro-hockey career, the Anchorage, AK product played five seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Prince Albert Raiders, dawning the assistant captain “A” on his sweater in his final season. Through 345 regular season games, Montgomery notched 72 goals and 72 assists. Prince Albert made the WHL playoffs three of the five seasons he was with the club, winning the league championship in the 2018-19 season. He played 35 games, notching 21 points on 12 goals and nine assists.
After his five-year WHL career, Montgomery went on to play four seasons at the University of Western Ontario in USports but had his second season canceled due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Through the three seasons he did get to play, he played 65 games, notching 28 goals and 14 assists.
After getting a taste of the ECHL last season, I would expect Montgomery to make a bigger impact on the team, as Carr stated. Montgomery can get things done in the dirty areas of the ice and is a solid penalty killer.
