ECHL: Norfolk Admirals Sign Forward Spencer Kennedy

The Norfolk Admirals have officially confirmed the signing of forward Spencer Kennedy to an ECHL contract.

Standing tall at 6’6″, Kennedy joins the Admirals, showcasing his physical style of play after two prior engagements in the ECHL with the Reading Royals and the Atlanta Gladiators. Prior to his time with the Royals, he had his first professional season in the SPHL with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs. In just 19 games with the Rail Yard Dawgs, Kennedy racked up 131 penalty minutes and netted three goals.

Kennedy joined the Rail Yard Dawgs after spending two seasons with the Portage College Voyageurs in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference. Before attending Portage College, he played junior hockey in various leagues, including the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League with the Kimberley Dynamiters, the Saskatchewan Hockey League with the La Ronge Ice Wolves, and the Northern Ontario Hockey League with the Blind River Beavers. Throughout his junior hockey career, Kennedy had amassed a total of 87 points (35 goals, 52 assists) and served 52 penalty minutes in 89 games.

The Lethbridge, Alberta native joined the ECHL for his second professional season, signing with The Reading Royals in August 2023. Kennedy later joined the Atlanta Gladiators roster in January 2024. During his time there, he participated in a total of 24 games, again demonstrating his physical playing style and accumulating an impressive 82 penalty minutes. However, in March 2024, the Atlanta Gladiators made the decision to release Kennedy. Shortly thereafter, he rejoined the SPHL, this time with the Pensacola Ice Flyers. In his time with the Ice Flyers at the season’s end, Kennedy scored one goal and provided one assist in 5 games.

The Norfolk Admirals as kick off the 2024-25 season at Norfolk Scope on October 18, facing off against the Adirondack Thunder.
