The Norfolk Admirals have signed center Marko Sikic to a standard player contract. Sikic is one of the former Growlers who has found a new home. Sikic spent the last five years playing with the Guelph Storm and Sarnia Sting in the OHL, where he scored 47 goals and 100 assists for 147 points in 252 games. Sikic signed with the Newfoundland Growlers on March 26th and played three games with the Growlers before the team ended up folding earlier this week. He picked up his first career goal and assist on March 30th vs. Worcester Railers, where he had a goal and two assists for three points. Danny Katic and Mathieu Roy, who both got the night off, will be back in the Admirals lineup this evening.
Norfolk has placed Denis Smirnov and Stepan Timofeyev on reserve, meaning they will both get the night off. Smirnov has played in 51 games this year with the Admirals, putting up 14 goals and 32 assists, along with 27 penalty minutes for 46 points. Timofeyev will get a rare night off and must be battling an injury because he’s currently on an 11-game point streak. In 62 games this season, Timofeyev has put up 20 goals and 33 assists for 53 points, along with 15 minutes in penalties. The Admirals have also released Carter Jones from his ATO as he now becomes an unresticted free agent. Jones played in three games with the Admirals after spending the last five years at Bemidji State University, where he put up 11 goals and 35 assists for 46 points in 128 games.
