The Norfolk Admirals have made a roster move as they have acquired Filip Fornåå Svensson from the Fort Wayne Komets in exchange for cash. The 25-year-old Linköping, SWE native is in his first season of a professional player and has seen just three games with the Komets this season, registering one assist and a plus/minus of +1. In another transaction, the Manitoba Moose have reassigned defenseman Ben Zloty to the Admirals.
Filip Fornåå Svensson: Svensson has a proven track record of being a solid played for his teams. In his home country, he played the entirety of his youth/junior career with Linköping HC at the U15, U16, J18, and J20 levels. At the U16 level, he played 42 games in two seasons where he tallied 16 goals and 23 assists. With the J18 team, He played three seasons where he tallied 18 goals and 21 assists. From part of the 2016-17 season to the 2018-19 season, he played 130 games for the J20 team where he tallied 34 goals and 44 assists.
After his time in Sweden, he comittied to the University of Alaska Fairbanks where he played two seasons of NCAA DI hockey. In those two seasons with U of A Fairbanks, he played 58 games notching 11 goals and 18 assists. He would then transfer to UMass-Lowell for his final two collegiate seasons. With UMass-Lowell, he played 63 games tallying 11 goals and 10 assists.
Ben Zloty: So far this season, the 22-year-old has four games with the Moose, registering one assist. His lone assist, and first point in the AHL, came back on Nov. 16 in a 5-3 win over the Chicago Wolves. Zloty made his professional hockey debut last season, playing four games with the Texas Stars and 42 games with the Idaho Steelheads. With the Steelheads, he notched seven goals and 16 assists.
Prior to starting his pro hockey career, the Calgary, AB native spent time in the Western Hockey League with formerly known Kootenay Ice and Winnipeg Ice. Durng his five-season career, he played 207 games registering 26 goals and 163 assists with an incredible plus/minus of +100. At the end of the 2022-23 season, Zloty was named to the WHL (East) First All-Star Team, had the most assists by a defenseman with 68, most points by a defenseman with 81, and had the most assists during the playoffs with 23.
The Admirals are back on the ice Wednesday night when they welcome the Reading Royals to Norfolk Scope for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop.
