ECHL North Division Recap | Week 8

This divisional recap summarizes the North Division teams in the ECHL, focusing on their standings, recent game results, player milestones, and key statistics. Here’s how all the teams faired during week 8 of the ECHL Regular Season.

Wheeling Nailers (15-3-1-0, 31pts,1st Place)- The Wheeling Nailers not only sit atop the North Division but currently have the best record in the ECHL. Wheeling has picked up points in 13 of their last 14 games, including a weekend sweep where they faced the Kalamazoo Wings, Cincinnati Cyclones, and Reading Royals. Head Coach Derek Army would also record his 125th win behind the Nailers bench over the weekend. Wheeling will head to Reading to play the Royals on Friday and Saturday Night.

Norfolk Admirals (13-4-3, 29pts, 2nd Place)- The Norfolk Admirals continued their winning ways as they’ve now won seven straight games as they beat Adirondack 6-1 on Friday night and then beat the Worcester Railers in OT on Sunday. Afternoon after trailing by two after 40 minutes of play. For the Admirals, Domenic DiVincentiis has now won six straight games in the ECHL, and the Admirals are the only team in the ECHL that has yet to lose in regulation on the road this season. Norfolk will host the Cincinnati Cyclones this weekend for a three-in-three.

Trois-Rivieres Lions (12-3-3-0)- After a mediocre start to the season, the Lions have clawed their way into third Place in the North and have gotten at least one point in each of their last ten games after picking up four of a possible five points against the Idaho Steelheads before picking up a win on the road against the Maine Mariners on Sunday. Trois-Rivieres also leads the league on the PP, converting at 30%. The Lions will head to Worcester for two games this weekend against the Worcester Railers. Goaltender Zachary Emond would end up winning Goalter of the Week for his performance during his two starts

Adirondack Thunder (10-8-0-1, 21pts, 4th Place)- It was a roller coaster week for Adirondack as they went 2-1 in their three games last week. It would begin on Wednesday as they would beat the Worcester Railers in a game in which they were down two goals twice. Adirondack would lose at home to Norfolk on Friday before heading on the road and beating the Royals on Saturday Night. The Thunder would have announced off-day on Sunday, but it wouldn’t be a quiet one with the news of Ryan Smith being suspended by the team. Adirondack will host the Maine Mariners on Friday and Saturday Night.

Worcester Railers (9-12-1-1)- The Railers would get right back to work with four games last week after taking two out of three games out west against the Wichita Thunder. Worcester’s week once again began with a game against the Thunder, this time, the Adirondack Thunder, where they suffered a gut-wrenching 7-4 loss. They would then return home for games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, where they picked up three of a possible six points. The Railer will continue their homestand with a game on Wednesday against the Reading Royals before welcoming the Trois-Rivières Lions to town for two games.

Reading Royals (7-12-4-0, 18pts, 6th Place)- The Royals had a light week with two home games as they picked up one of a possible four points as they lost to the Adirondack Thunder in OT before losing 6-2 to the Wheeling Nailers on Sunday Afternoon. Reading has struggled lately, but six of their last seven points have come against Adirondack. The Royals will head to Worcester for a game on Wednesday before welcoming the ECHL’s top team to Reading for games on Friday and Saturday.

Maine Mariners (7-11-2-0, 16pts, 7th Place)- The Maine Mariners picked up three out of a possible six points on the week but continue to sit at the bottom of the North Division. This weekend will be a big test for the Mariners as they face Adirondack for the first time this season for two games at Cool Insuring Arena.
