Orlando Solar Bears

Today, September 1st, the Orlando Solar Bears announced the re-signing of defenseman Jimmy Mazza. Mazza was with the Solar Bears last year for 72 games during the 2022-23, scoring four goals and 13 assists. This will be Jimmy’s second season as a Solar Bear, and he has appeared in 162 ECHL games with Orlando, Adirondack, and Reading.

The 6-foot-2 defenseman comes from Kings Park, New York, where he played collegiate hockey for Canisius College. At Canisius, Jimmy skated in 141 games and scored 68 points (18g-50a). Mazza was on the team when Canisius won the Atlantic Hockey Association season conference title in 2016-17. Prior to his time at Canisius College, Mazza won a Defenseman of the Year award in 2014-15 while playing junior hockey with the P.A.L Junior Islanders.

The moment the announcement was made that number 77, Jimmy Mazza, would be returning to Solar Bear Ice, comments flew in under the posts about their excitement to see Mazza’s return. Mazza has earned career-highs in scoring while in Orlando. He has scored four goals and 13 assists. Coming in with 108 penalty minutes, he has the second-most on the team. Jimmy Mazza was acquired through a future considerations trade with the Adirondack Thunder last summer.
