It was announced that the Syracuse Crunch, the AHL affiliate of the Orlando Solar Bears, have called up goaltender Brandon Halverson from the Orlando Solar Bears. Earlier this season, Halverson played six games with the Crunch. In the AHL, he has a 4-1 record, posting a .896 save percentage and 2.99 goals-against-average. Halverson is on the first year of his AHL contract, signed by the Crunch on November 28th. He earned his first AHL shutout in a very impressive 26-save shutout against the Utica Comets on November 24th.
Halverson has been the main net-minder for the Solar Bears, playing in 30 games, posting a 2.75 goals-against-average and a .916 save percentage, posting one shutout, which came on February 15th against the Worcester Railers in a 36 save performance.
In a corresponding move, the Bears have called up Jimmy Poreda from the Macon Mayhem of the SPHL, where he has played 20 games, posting a 3.60 GAA and .895 save percentage. This will be his fifth team of the season, also playing with Savannah, Atlanta, and Norfolk of the ECHL. He played two with the Ghost Pirates, having a 5.88 GAA and a .800 save percentage; he also played two games with the Admirals, having better statistics with a 4.52 GAA and a .836 save percentage. He was with the Solar Bears for 12 games last year, posting a 2.80 average with a .912 save percentage.
The Solar Bears will need those same stats from last year as the push for the playoffs continues, with Orlando having 17 games left, sitting in 5th place in the South Division, only one point out of playoff position. They continue that push tonight against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits.
