ECHL: Orlando’s Brayden Low Suspended Five Games

In a recent announcement, the ECHL Department of Player Safety revealed a significant disciplinary action against Brayden Low of the Orlando Solar Bears. The decision came in the wake of ECHL Game #944 on February 20, where the Solar Bears suffered a 4-1 defeat against the Jacksonville Icemen. Following the game, Low was suspended for five games and fined an undisclosed amount, highlighting the league’s firm stance on maintaining on-ice safety and conduct.

According to official game details, Low left his bench at 19:05 and received a 10-minute game misconduct penalty for leaving the players’ bench (Rule 70.1). This incident occurred as the intensity of the match escalated. The on-ice altercation also involved other players: Logan Cockerill was assessed a two-minute roughing minor penalty, and Chris Harpur received the same penalty, both at 19:56 in the third period. Their involvement further highlights the chaotic nature of the situation during that critical phase of the game.

Due to his suspension, Low will be unable to participate in several upcoming contests, all against South Division rivals. His absence is expected to impact key matchups against the Jacksonville Icemen on February 26, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on February 28, and the South Carolina Stingrays on March 3, with two additional games against Greenville on March 8 and March 9.

Furthermore, as stipulated by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players’ Association, any fines imposed on players are allocated to the PHPA’s ECHL Player’s Hardship Fund. This measure is part of the league’s broader commitment to both enforcing discipline and supporting its athletes through financial challenges.

2024-25 Season Statistics

In the 2024-25 season with the Orlando Solar Bears, Low has played 50 games to date, scoring 13 goals and providing 14 assists for a total of 27 points, while accumulating 42 penalty minutes. He also spent a brief period on loan with the Belleville Senators (AHL), where he appeared in two games.
