
Forward Patrick Kudla is heading overseas to Austria to join HC Innsbruck of the ICEHL after three seasons in North America. He is the second defenseman to head overseas for next season, joining Norfolk’s Hank Crone, who’s already signed a deal overseas for next season. Kudla played in 52 games last season, putting up eight goals and 22 assists for 30 points. The Guelph, Ontario, native began his career overseas, spending time in Slovakia and the Czech Republic before coming to North America.
Patrick Kudla, 29, spent the past three seasons with the Idaho Steelheads, putting up 26 goals and 114 assists for 140 points in 171 games. He’s added four goals and 21 assists for 25 points in 30 career Kelly Cup Playoff Games. Kudla would be a part of the 2023 Brabham Cup Champion Idaho Steelheads. His best season came during the 2023-24 season, where he put up 10 goals and 50 assists for 60 points in 60 games. He would be named to the All-ECHL First Team as well as Defenseman of the Year. Kudla also saw 10 games of action at the AHL level throughout the last three seasons.
Prior to going pro, Kudla spent a year in the USHL and a year in USports. In 58 games with the Dubuque Fighting Saints during the 2016-17 season, he put up eight goals and 30 assists for 38 points. Kudla would lead all Fighting Saints defenders in all offensive categories. The following season, he would put one goal and 11 assists for 12 points in 20 games with the University of Guelph.
