ECHL: Peyton Jones Heads Back Overseas

Indy Fuel goaltender is heading back overseas to join the Vienna Capitals of the ICEHL after spending last year and the beginning of this year in the ECHL. The 28-year-old goaltender had previously spent time overseas during the 2022-23 season in the EIHL with the Belfast Giants and Nottingham Panthers, where he went 15-12 with a 2.84 GAA, 912SV%, and two shutouts in 30 games. Jones went 2-2 with a .075 GAA, .964 SV%, and two shutouts in four starts with the Fuel this season.

The Langhorne, PA, native spent his collegiate career at Penn State, posting a 74-44-11 record with a 2.88 GAA, .907 SV%, and four shutouts. Jones has spent the majority of his three-plus years in North America in the ECHL, posting a 39-35-5 record with a 3.11 GAA, .900SV%, and four shutouts while playing for the Utah Grizzlies, Iowa Heartlanders, and Indy Fuel. He would be the Heartlanders’ representative at last year’s All-Star Game in Savannah. Jones has also played in nine AHL games, posting a record of 1-5-2 with a 3.85 GAA and .878SV%.

How Does This Affect The Fuel

This is a massive loss for a Fuel team that has struggled out of the gate, putting up a 3-5 record and having to play their first 15 games on the road due to their new arena not being ready yet. It seemed things were looking up for the Fuel after shutting out their opponent in two of their last three games. The Fuel will now look for another goalie to back up rookie goaltender Ben Gaudreau but don’t have much time as their next game is Wednesday Morning vs Toledo Walleye.
