The Greenville Swamp Rabbits have announced the re-signing of forward Ben Poisson and defenseman Jordan Power for the upcoming 2025–26 season.

Poisson Ready to Build on Rookie Season

Ben Poisson, 25, is a 6’1”, 196-pound forward from Vancouver, British Columbia, who shoots left and brings a reliable two-way game to the Swamp Rabbits’ lineup. Known for his strong work ethic and high compete level, Poisson enters his second professional season under contract for 2025–26.

He made his pro debut with Greenville in 2024–25, appearing in 59 games and recording three goals, seven assists, and 10 points, along with four penalty minutes and a +1 rating. Trusted in all situations, he’s expected to take on a bigger role this season.

Before turning pro, Poisson spent five seasons at the University of Maine, where he compiled 72 points (31G, 41A) in 155 NCAA games. His most productive year came in 2022–23, when he tallied 26 points in 36 games. In his final season, he helped lead the Black Bears to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in over a decade.

He also enjoyed a standout junior career in the BCHL, where he captained the Prince George Spruce Kings to the 2019 BCHL Championship and received the Bob Fenton Trophy in 2018 as the league’s most sportsmanlike player.

Now heading into year two, the Vancouver native is focused on building off his rookie foundation and taking his game to the next level.

“I really enjoyed the city, the fans, and everything about the organization,” Poisson said. “Last year was a great way to get my foot in the door as a pro… I want to be more productive this season. Start with defense, do things the right way, and build from there.”

Poisson also shared his excitement about playing under new Head Coach Chad Costello:

“Coach Costello and I are finding each other at the right time. I’m excited to learn from an ECHL legend and develop my game after him. A rising tide raises all ships.”

Costello sees big things in year two:

“Ben is a player who competes hard in all situations. We’re looking to help him grow into a reliable, everyday pro who can also add offense to our group.”

Poisson previously played five NCAA seasons with the University of Maine, helping the Black Bears return to the NCAA Tournament in 2024. He also led the Prince George Spruce Kings to a BCHL championship in 2019.

Power Looks to Make His Mark

Jordan Power, 24, is a 6’2”, 196-pound defenseman from Ottawa, Ontario, who shoots left and brings mobility, hockey IQ, and grit to the Swamp Rabbits’ blue line. Under contract for the 2025–26 season, Power returns to Greenville looking to build on his professional debut.

Power joined the Swamp Rabbits late in 2024–25 following his NCAA season with Minnesota State University (Mankato). He made an immediate impact in his six ECHL games, scoring his first professional goal and finishing with a +2 rating.

Across five NCAA seasons split between Clarkson University and Minnesota State, Power totaled 43 points (10G, 33A) in 163 games, along with 111 penalty minutes and a reputation as a dependable, intelligent two-way defenseman. He played a key role in Minnesota State’s postseason run last season, helping the Mavericks reach the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

Earlier in his career, Power captained the Lincoln Stars of the USHL, recording 51 points (7G, 44A) in 101 games and earning 2020 Third All-Star Team honors. A product of the Toronto Nationals youth program, Power brings a well-rounded game and leadership mindset to the Upstate.

As he enters his first full professional season, Power looks to grow under Head Coach Chad Costello’s system and solidify his role as a key contributor on the Greenville blue line.

“Those two weeks in Greenville were incredible,” Power said. “The fans, the city, the arena—everything felt right. I’ve dreamed about being a pro since I was three years old, and Greenville met every expectation.”

The Ottawa native wants to be more than just another rookie on the ice:

“I know I’m a younger guy, but I want to be a voice in the room. I’m not afraid to stand up for my teammates and make an impact on the game.”

Coach Costello added,

“Jordan is a fun defenseman to watch. His hockey IQ and instincts are elite. He skates so well and adapts quickly—he’s had success at every level, and I expect the same here.”

Power comes to the Swamp Rabbits after five NCAA seasons between Clarkson and Minnesota State, where he helped lead the Mavericks to the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Before college, he captained the Lincoln Stars in the USHL and earned 3rd All-Star Team honors in 2020.
