GREENVILLE, S.C. — It’s now officially that time of the year again as hockey returns to the arenas and TV screens. Today, Oct. 9, marks a special day for the ECHL as they commence its 2024-25 preseason, with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits hosting the South Carolina Stingrays at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

It may be a preseason game, but this event is something special for the team and the community. After the devastation of Hurricane Helene (The Greenville News, Oct. 2024), thousands in the Greenville area were left without power for days, struggling to get warm meals and water as a result.

After over a week since the hurricane passed, the community has rebuilt and returned to a sense of normalcy, and hockey is no exception to that. Last week, the Swamp Rabbits announced that the preseason game against the Rays was free to the community, with plenty of opportunities for fans to donate to local causes for hurricane relief efforts.

Tonight at 7:05 EST. will be a special night for everyone in the community. What can fans expect prior to puck drop?

Expect action, camaraderie, and talent being showcased. The Swamp Rabbits have an elite roster built up from new head coach Kyle Mountain and coach Adam Duada with experienced depth and new rookies to the league.

So far, there are a lot of players on the training camp roster, including those on PTOs (professional tryouts). However, there’s no official word of who will make the cut on the game-day roster for tonight’s preseason game. Here’s the roster of offensive and defensive players:

(* Players returning from last season)

FORWARDS (16)

#10 Brent Pedersen, #12 Ben Poisson, #13 Reed Morison, #18 Patrick Moynihan, #20 Arvid Caderoth, #22 Zach White, #24 Ben Freeman*, #58 Tyson Fawcett, #89 Stuart Rolofs, #91 Austin Saint*

Loans from the Ontario Reign: Arvid Caderoth, Patrick Moynihan, Ben Poisson, Quinn Olson*, Colton Young*, Bryce Brodzinski

DEFENSEMEN (10)

#2 Jacob Modry*, #3 Joe Leahy*, #14 Jake Flynn*, #15 Miles Gendron, #21 Bobby Russell*, #23 Max Coyle*, #55 Joshua Karlsson*

Loans from Ontario: Parker Berge, Dru Krebs, Carter Savoie

GOALTENDERS (4)

#34 Luke Richardson*, #68 Jacob Ingham*

Loans from Ontario: Dryden McKay and Ingham

Invites: Kolby Hay

Now it may be preseason, but a handful of players will be putting on a show and demonstrating their skill set for a full-time roster spot on the team. There are a lot of Ontario Reign players being sent down due to cap and roster restraints. That particular talent pool will be interesting to look at. Colton Young, Quinn Olson and Jacob Ingham will be making a comeback to Greenville.

The Swamp Rabbits host the Stingrays tonight at 7:05 pm EST at Bon Secours Wellness Arena for their first and only preseason game to start off the ECHL season.

Admission to this game is free to the general public, and will have plenty of opportunities to donate and contribute to great causes for hurricane relief.
