The Rapid City Rush and Scott Burt have announced that Burt will be taking a medical leave of absence.

Scott Burt has been the head coach of the Rush since the 2021-22 season and has also served as the Director of Hockey Operations/General Manager during that time. Burt led the Rush back to the playoffs for the first time in seven seasons in the 2021-22 season, where they fell in the Division Finals to the Utah Grizzlies in six games.

In Burt’s first season with the Rush, he guided the team to a record of 36-25-6-5, placing them second in the Mountain Division, fourth in the Western Conference, and ninth in the league. During the 2021-22 season, the Rush had the tenth-best power play in the league and the best penalty kill.

Over his four seasons with the Rush, Burt has accumulated a regular season record of 104-106-17-7 and a playoff record of 6-4-1.

Scott Burt did not travel with the team to South Carolina for their games this weekend. In his absence, Peter Drikos will serve as the acting head coach of the Rapid City Rush.

The Rapid City Rush and South Carolina Stingrays will kick off their series on Friday, December 6th, continue on Saturday, December 7th, and conclude on Sunday, December 8th. Puck drop will be at 5:05 pm MT on Friday and Saturday, and at 1:05 pm MT on Sunday
