ECHL: Rapid City Rush Re-Sign Aaron Hyman

Rapid City Rush/ECHL

The Rapid City Rush have announced that they have re-signed 6’5″ defenseman Aaron Hyman for the 2025-26 season.

Junior and Collegiate Career

Aaron Hyman spent his junior career in the WHL, where he split his time between the Calgary Hitmen, Seattle Thunderbirds, Regina Pats, and Tri-City Americans. Hyman played in 235 WHL games, where he had 16 goals and 67 assists for 83 points. In 35 playoff games, he had two goals and ten assists for 12 points. In the 2016-17 season, Hyman and the Seattle Thunderbirds won the WHL championship.

After signing in the ECHL and playing in two games with the Kalamazoo Wings, the Calgary, Alberta native went back to Canada to play USports. Hyman started at Ryerson University, now Toronto Metro University, where he spent five seasons. During his time at Toronto Metro, Hyman played in 79 games, registering eight goals and 32 assists for 40 points.

Professional Career

After completing his collegiate career, Hyman signed with the ECHL’s Rapid City Rush for the 2024-25 season. He played in 44 games with the Rush, where he had two assists with nine penalty minutes and a -21.

Hyman will be entering his sophomore season in the 2025-26 season. Hyman brings a lot of size to the Rush and is able to move on the ice extremely well. With the 2024-25 season being his true rookie season, there was still a lot of development and learning going on with adjusting to play in the ECHL. Now that Hyman has some experience in the ECHL, he can start to find even more success as he continues developing and figuring out where his game fits in best.
