
The Rapid City Rush have announced that they have re-signed 5’10” goaltender Nathan Torchia for the 2025-26 season.
Junior and Collegiate Career
Nathan Torchia started his junior career in the OJHL during the 2016-17 season. In his four seasons in the OJHL, Torchia played with the Orangeville Flyers, Stouffville Spirit, and Georgetown Raiders. In 134 games played, Torchia had a record of 55-68-3 with ten shutouts. During that time, he put up a save percentage of .917 and had a 2.96 goals against average. In the 2017-18 season, Torchia was named to the OJHL Second Team All-Prospect and was named the OJHL Best Goaltender and named to the OJHL First All-Star Team in the 2019-20 season.
Torchia then spent the 2020-21 season in the MJAHL with the Summerside Western Capitals. He then started the 2021-22 season in the OSHL with the Stratford Fighting Irish before starting his collegiate career.
For his collegiate career, Torchia spent his time playing four seasons of USports at the University of Windsor. Through 78 games played at Windsor, Torchia had a record of 45-27-4 with two shutouts while keeping a goals against average of 2.57. In the 2022-23 season, Torchia was named USports OUA West Goaltender of the Year, USports Goaltender of the Year, was named to the USports OUA West First All-Star Team, and was named to the USports All-Canadian First Team. Torchia had the best save percentage in USports with a .936SV%.
Professional Career
After completing his collegiate career, Torchia signed with the Rapid City Rush to finish his 2024-25 season. In three games, he had a record of 1-1-0 with a 4.08 goals against average and .901 save percentage.
Nathan Torchia joined the Rush late in the season when they were hit with goaltender callups and injuries, allowing him to see some action. Torchia was able to step in and perform for the team when they needed him to. Torchia is still young and can still develop more, but from what he has shown in his time with the Rush so far, he could be a very promising goaltender for the team.
