Earlier today, the Reading Royals announced that they acquired Defenseman Mackenzie Dwyer from the Jacksonville Icemen in exchange for future considerations. Reading also signed forward Tyler Williams to a contract today. Dwyer is a 27-year-old left-handed defenseman from Winnipeg, Manitoba, who has been playing in the ECHL since the 2021 season, appearing in 103 games. Dwyer has played in 11 games this season for Jacksonville, failing to find the scoresheet. His last point came on January 19th, 2024, against the Worcester Railers, when he was a member of the Fort Wayne Komets, as his last four points have come against North Division teams.

In his time in the ECHL, Dwyer has three goals and 17 assists, along with 98 penalty minutes. His first appearance in the ECHL was with the Norfolk Admirals, where he played in 32 games, adding nine points to his professional tally. Since making his ECHL debut with Norfolk, Dwyer has been on several rosters across the league. Dwyer went on to play for the Fort Wayne Komets and the Jacksonville Icemen the following season. In the 2023-2024 season, Dwyer played 13 games before reuniting with Fort Wayne and the Icemen. Before joining the ECHL, Dwyer spent time developing his game in the SPHL, playing 66 games for the Birmingham Bulls. In his time in the SPHL, Dwyer scored two goals and added 15 assists for 17 points. Reading Royals fans can look forward to the experienced 6’3, 201-pound Canadian defenseman contributing to their blue line this season.
