ECHL: Reading Royals: Former QMJHL Forward Signs With Royals For Rookie Season

On August 23rd, 2024, the Royals announced that Lou-Félix Denis signed his first professional contract for the 2024-2025 season.

The Quebec native hits the professional ranks after three seasons in the QMJHL with the Shawinigan Cataractes and Halifax Mooseheads.

“I heard Royals fans are the best in the league. Can’t wait to see them in October.”

The forward, who is 5’10, and comes equipped with a right shot, has tallied 113 points throughout 197 QMJHL games. Denis played for the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the 2019-2020 season, Shawinigan Cataractes starting in 2021 and ending in 2024 when he was traded and finished his junior career with Halifax Mooseheads. During his QMJHL career, he totaled eight points in post-season play with four goals and four assists. In 2022, he assisted in a post-season run with the Shawinigan Cataractes and earned what is now titled the Gilles-Courteau Trophy.

“Lou embodies everything we are trying to build this year. Watching Lou in juniors, he is very good positionally anywhere he was on the ice which for me is a huge bonus. He is smart, physical, can play anywhere in the lineup, and is going to bring youth to our roster. Lou’s versatility is what drew me to him and the assets he provides on the ice, being able to play in any position, is where he is going to be utilized. For us, it’s going to be a matter of teaching him the pro game and helping him get adjusted to the pro level. Thankfully we have [Yvan] Mongo, Todd [Skirving] and a couple other French players as well to help provide that. I am excited to see what he can do joining us in Reading.”
