ECHL: Reading Royals: Long Island University Forward Signs With Reading For Rookie Season

On Thursday, July 25th, 2024, Reading Royals announced they have signed Nolan Welsh to a contract. Welsh began his professional career by signing an SPC with the Savannah Ghost Pirates to begin his professional playing career in March 2024. He played in three games for Savannah, which came after playing four seasons in the NCAA for Long Island University. During the span of 109 NCAA games dressed, Welsh tallied 19 goals with 32 assists.

“I am so excited to be apart of the Royals. I have heard nothing but great things about the organization and the fans. I can’t wait for this year to start.”

  • Per Royals PR- Welsh on signing with Reading

Welsh is 6’0″ and 185 pounds. He comes equipped with a right shot. Welsh played in the BCHL for Victoria Grizzlies for the 2016-2017 season. He then moved on to play for Prince George Spruce Kings from 2017-2020. During his time with the Spruce Kings, Welsh assisted in the 2019 BCHL Championship and was the team’s captain for the 2019-2020 season.

“Welsh’s potential and what he can provide offensively is something that we can benefit from. When we get into the dog days with injuries and call ups, he is going to be a guy that pushes the guys ahead of him in the lineup to move up himself. The big thing he also provides is that scoring ability that fits the mold of a defensive-minded player that is pushing our other guys offensively.”
