After coming out of a rough weekend at home against the Maine Mariners, the Royals seeked out some defensive help to strengthen their core. The result of their search brought them to the Kalamazoo Wings where they traded future considerations for defenseman, Kurt Gosselin. The former #28 for the Wings will bring his defensive experience to the team and hopefully give them the push they need as the season falls into its second half.
The twenty-nine year old Michigan native joins the Reading Royals, his third ECHL team he’s been signed to since the start of his professional career. Kurt Gosselin’s ECHL career started in Cincinnati in the 2018-19 season where he appeared in seven games, scoring a total of five goals and two assists in his time there. In the following season, Gosselin returned to the Cyclones where he spent 47 games that season before the COVID-19 shutdown. During that season, he scored a total of six goals and twelve assists.
Gosselin didn’t return to hockey until the 2022-23 where he started with the Toledo Walleye playing in a total of 18 games before being sent to the Kalamazoo Wings where he stayed for the remainder of that season and the first half of this season. His hockey career has now brought him to Reading to strengthen the defensive core that has become problematic especially during this past series against Maine.
Gosselin will start with the Royals in Maine hoping to assist the team in seeking revenge for their home losses. With the season beginning its wind down, every game from this point on is crucial in the push for playoffs. At this point, the Royals sit last in the division but there is still plenty of games left to gain ground before playoffs roll around.
