ECHL: Reading Royals: Royals Acquire Two Players Rights

On July 31st, the Reading Royals announced the playing rights of forward Travis Broughman and goaltender Vinnie Purpura have been acquired from the Adirondack Thunder. This is in exchange for the playing rights of forward Tag Bertuzzi. Bertuzzi has signed an AHL contract with the Utica Comets on July 30, 2024.

Broughman tallied 27 points including 14 goals and 13 assists in the span of 66 games in the 2023-2024 season. Broughman assisted in the 2024 Kelly Cup Playoff run for Adirondack and notched one goal with four assists. The run ended in game 6 in Glens Falls, NY of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Broughman comes in at 6’2″, 185-pound. He is equipped with a right-shot. He has dressed for 114 ECHL games, which have all been with Adirondack. Broughman began playing professional hockey in the SPHL with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs. He tallied 10 goals with 15 assists in the span of 27 games in the SPHL.

Purpura, who is 25 years old, dressed in 25 games in the 2023-2024 season for the Adirondack Thunder. He posted a 15-4-4 record and had a 2.78 goals against average and a .908 save percentage. He posted one shutout during the season with 16 saves against the Trois-Rivières Lions on February 17th, 2024. Purpura signed at PTO with the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL in November of 2023 but did not dress. Purpura comes in at 6’6 and 194 pounds. He is a netminder who catches right. Purpura signed at SPC to start playing professionally in March of 2023 when his season at Long Island University ended.
