ECHL: Reading Royals: Royals Sign SPHL Forward Dominiks Marcinkevics

On Monday, August 5th, 2024, Reading Royals announced they have signed forward Dominiks Marcinkevics.

Marcinkevics was born in Riga, Latvia, and spent most of his early playing days there. In the 2015-2016 season, he played for HS Riga. He tallied 28 goals with 31 assists. In the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 seasons, he played for SK Riga 16 and SK Riga 17. In those two seasons, he notched 36 goals with 24 assists. In the 2017-2018 season, Marcinkevics participated in the Latvia Cup and dressed in five games. In those five games, he gathered one goal and two assists.

In the 2018-2019 season, Marcinkevics came to play in the Eastern Hockey League and played for the New England Wolves. He played in 42 games for them in total. During those 42 games, he tallied 34 goals with 27 assists. During the 2019-2020 season, Marcinkevics went to play in the NCDC for the Islanders Hockey Club. He dressed for 42 games and notched 12 goals with 30 assists. When the 2020-2021 season rolled around Marcinkevics went to the NAHL and played in five games for Minnesota Wilderness, where he gathered two goals with one assist. In the 2021-2022 season, he stayed in the NAHL and played for the Maine Nordiques for 11 games. Marcinkevics then returned to the NAHL and dressed for the New Jersey Hitmen for 34 games. In those 34 games, he notched 31 goals and 40 assists.

Marcinkevics started the 2022-2023 season in Latvia playing for Dinamo Riga. He only dressed in two games and tallied one goal with no assists. Marcinkevics was then signed to an SPHL contract with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs. He played in 53 games and notched 10 goals and 22 assists. Marcinkevics assisted the team in their post-season run, dressing in five games. He gathered one assist in that postseason run. In the 2023-2024 season, Marcinkevics returned to the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs, playing in 42 games and having a career year in the SPHL. He tallied 17 goals with 20 assists to make for 37 points. In February of the 2023-2024 season, Marcinkevics received the call-up to the ECHL and played for Adirondack Thunder in a total of 13 games. In those 13 games, he notched two goals with three assists.

He’s not huge in size, but he has a ton of speed and at this level, having that speed to create offense and create space for yourself is something we are going to continue to work on and develop him on. To give Dom the opportunity to come in and earn his spot on this team and show what he can do within our systems is going to be very nice. As a point-per-game guy in the SPHL, we are excited to add Dom who brings more speed to the lineup and have that part of the game come into play now.”
