The Vegas Golden Knights have just won their first Stanley Cup in team history, with one of the Royals’ greatest tallying his third cup win since joining the NHL.
Royals’ former goaltender, Jonathan Quick, won his third Stanley Cup with the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers. During Quick’s time with the Royals in the 2007-08 season, he played in 38 games, with the team having a GAA of 2.79 and a SV% of .905. Quick also played part of that season with the Manchester Monarchs, the AHL affiliate to the Los Angeles Kings, to which the Royals were originally affiliated, where he appeared in 19 games with a GAA of 2.32 and a SV% of .922. That same season Quick got to see some NHL time with the Kings for the first time in his career, where he eventually stayed until this past season, where he was traded to the Golden Knights after being initially dealt to the Columbus Blue Jackets. His first game with the Kings was on December 6th, 2007, against the Buffalo Sabres, where the Kings won 8-2. It was a year later, on December 23rd, 2008, just before Christmas, that Quick earned his first career shutout against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Before this past Stanley Cup win with the Golden Knights, Quick won two Stanley Cups with the Kings, one in 2012 and the other in 2014. In the 2012 season, Quick helped in ending the Kings’ 19-year cup drought in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Phoenix Coyotes. In 2014, Quick received his second Stanley Cup win against the New York Rangers. Quick would later spend another eight seasons with the Kings’ until his trade that led him to his third Stanley Cup win.
Quick was quite the favorite among Royals’ fans during his seemingly short time in Reading. Even after all these seasons, Royals’ fans still talk highly of what he accomplished for the team and how proud they are of his success throughout his career. Quite often throughout Santander Arena, you hear Quick’s name tossed around, almost as though he never truly left the city of Reading. Fans can appreciate his memory on the team forever as his name is a permanent statute on the Royals’ Wall of Honor with other Royals’ greats, such as Olivier Labelle and Yannick Tifu, that have also been quite the favorites among Royals’ fans.
