Standing at 5’11” and weighing 185 pounds, Joey Cipollone, a right-handed shot from Purchase, NY, has proven to be an asset. Now he is bringing his talents to the Atlanta Gladiators after it was announced that the Gladiators recently signed the forward to a SPC. This will mark Cipollone’s second year as a professional after playing much of the 2023-24 season with the Worcester Railers.

Prior to joining the ECHL, Cipollone spent some of his time at Quinnipiac University, he played in 107 games, scoring 19 goals and adding 19 assists for a total of 38 points. During the 2022-23 season as a senior, Cipollone participated in 41 games, scoring five goals and providing eight assists for a total of 13 points. He recorded a plus/minus rating of +15 and had 71 shots on goal. Notably, Cipollone achieved five game-winning goals, ranking 2nd in the ECAC and 7th nationally. He also blocked 34 shots that season, leading Hockey East among forwards. One of the highlights of his time at Quinnipiac was helping the team win their first-ever national championship in the 2023 Frozen Four Championship, with a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory over the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Before that, Joey Cipollone previously played in the USHL with the Tri-City Storm. Over his time with the Storm, he played 78 games and accumulated 19 points (10g, 9a). After playing with the Storm, he moved on to the University of Vermont (UVM) for two seasons before transferring to Quinnipiac University. At UVM, Cipollone played in 47 games and scored 12 goals with eight assists.

Transitioning to the professional level with the Worcester Railers in the ECHL for the 2023-24 season, he continued to make his mark, playing 63 games and recording seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points. One notable aspect of Joey’s performance was his ability to contribute on the power play, scoring three goals with the man advantage last season for the Railers. Cipollone excelled on the power play last season due to his strong offensive instincts. He was particularly adept at finding open spaces and creating scoring opportunities. His quick release and accurate shot had often made him a reliable option for the Railers whenever they had the man advantage.

Additional Transactions:

Tyler Drevitch, F was moved from 3-day to 14-day injured reserve (10/22).

Up Next:

On Friday, October 25th, and Saturday, October 26th, the Atlanta Gladiators will go head-to-head with the defending Kelly Cup champions, the Florida Everblades, in consecutive away games. They will bring the battle back to home ice on Wednesday, October 30th (Scooby Doo Night).
