Today the ECHL has announced who the goalie of the month is. It comes after an intense last month of November of goalies making a name for themselves. But today, the ECHL has chosen Ryan Bednard of the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. Bednard, 26, has played five seasons in the ECHL—mainly for the Swamp Rabbits—and several games across different seasons in the AHL for different teams. Last season, 2022-23, Bednard played four games before getting traded back to Greenville, where he would play twenty-six games for the Rabbits, which includes six games during the Kelly Cup Playoffs against Jacksonville; additionally, during that season, Bednard received multiple PTOs from different AHL teams, including the Abbotsford Canucks, Grand Rapids Griffins, and Belleville Senators. In total, Bednard has played seventeen games in the AHL for six teams. For his fifth season in the ECHL and fourth as a Swamp Rabbit, Ryan Bednard signed a contract with the Ontario Reign (LA Kings AHL affiliate) and since then has made a name for himself. In only seven games played, Bednard has won all those games, and has posted a record of 1.84 GAA, 0.945 SV%, and has made 236 saves while only allowing in thirteen goals. For his latest game in Atlanta, Bednard got a 5-0 shutout victory, as he made twenty-four saves. His record speaks volumes, and it’s clear he has talent in pro hockey. The Swamp Rabbits return to home turf to battle against the Atlanta Gladiators for the first time this season tonight (Dec. 1st), along with facing off against the SC Stingrays the following day, and Bednard will likely start in either of those games.
