Greenville fans, get ready to welcome back two familiar faces. The Swamp Rabbits announced the return of forward Ryan O’Hara and defenseman Jacob Modry, bringing the number of signed players for the 2025–26 season to ten. Both made a substantial impact last season—O’Hara with his late-season debut and Modry with his size, toughness, and presence. Their re-signings add to a growing core of familiar faces ready to chase unfinished business in Greenville.
Ryan O’Hara: Ready to Run It Back
Oakville, Ontario native Ryan O’Hara, 24, made his pro debut late last season with the Swamp Rabbits after finishing a standout college career at Bowling Green State University. In 10 games, he picked up one goal and two assists, including a pair of helpers in Greenville’s upset win that snapped South Carolina’s 17-game win streak.
At BGSU, O’Hara served as captain and posted a career-best 33 points (11G, 22A) in 36 games his senior year. His full NCAA total: 89 points in 131 games. Before college, he put up 101 points in 104 games with the OJHL’s Oakville Blades and won both the 2019 OJHL Championship and Dudley Hewitt Cup.
“The city was amazing… fans, great group of guys, awesome place to live, and a great organization,” O’Hara said. “Coach Costello seems serious about winning and developing talent, which excites me… This year is all about winning” (Greenville Swamp Rabbits, 2025).
Coach Chad Costello added: “Ryan is fearless in competing… He can skate and outwork anyone… For our fans, he’ll be really fun to watch.”
Jacob Modry: Grit, Size, and Leadership
Returning for his third pro season, 26-year-old Jacob Modry brings a steady presence to Greenville’s blue line. The 6’6″, 216-pound defender had three points last season (1G, 2A) and was a finalist for ECHL Community Player of the Year. In total, Modry has appeared in 77 ECHL games with Savannah, Newfoundland, and Greenville, tallying 8 points.
Prior to turning pro, he played for Merrimack College (NCAA DI) and SUNY-Plattsburgh (NCAA DIII), earning All-American honors and a SUNYAC title in 2023. He also won a BCHL title in 2018 with Wenatchee and is the son of longtime NHLer Jaroslav Modry. “There’s lots of unfinished business for myself and this team,” Modry said. “I can see a winning team in Greenville… Coach Costello is building a culture, and I have a fire to add to it.”
Costello spoke highly of Modry’s character: “Jacob’s commitment is remarkable… He’s from a hockey family, and everything is team-first.” (Greenville Swamp Rabbits, 2025).
Looking Ahead
With O’Hara and Modry returning to the fold, the Swamp Rabbits continue to solidify a strong core that already includes names like Brent Pedersen, Austin Saint, and Liam Finlay. Greenville will look to build on that chemistry as they aim for a deeper playoff push in 2025–26. Fans can catch the team in action on Opening Night, Friday, October 17, when the Swamp Rabbits host the Utah Grizzlies at Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Puck drops at 7:05 PM EDT.
