The Adirondack Thunder announced this morning that forward Ryan Smith had been suspended. Smith could likely be headed overseas, as this is the normal procedure teams follow when players go overseas. Ryan Smith had six goals and six assists for 12 points in 18 games this season.

What Smith’s Suspension Means For The Thunder

This is a massive blow to Adirondack as they lose their longest-tenured player, Ryan Smith, who has spent the last four years with the Thunder. Smith put up 60 goals and 71 assists for 131 points. The 27-year-old forward is second in games played with Adirondack (230), and earlier this season, passed Pete MacArthur for the most shots on goal in franchise history.

Replacing a guy like Smith will not be easy and leaves the Thunder with a leadership vacancy. The Roanoke, Virginia native spent much time this year in the middle-six. Smith is always one of the guys who never gets enough credit for the effort he puts in every night. I would expect the Thunder to look for another body to add to the roster with Smith’s departure.
