The Savannah Ghost Pirates have announced that they’ve signed defenseman Will Riedell for the 2024-25 season. Riedell, 23, is entering his fourth pro as he’s spent 50 games at the AHL level, putting up three goals and seven assists for 10 points with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, San Jose Barracuda, and Calgary Wranglers. At the ECHL level, he’s put up seven goals and 14 assists for 21 points in 47 games; he played in 15 games with the Ghost Pirates in 2022-23, where he put up four assists before spending his time in the ECHL with the Rapid City Rush last season.
The left-handed shooting defenseman showed his scoring touch last season, putting up seven goals in 32 games last year with Rapid City. Riedell should be an everyday player in the Ghost Pirates lineup next year.
“Will is a leader,” Ghost Pirates Head Coach Jared Staal said. “He’s somebody that can help out some of the younger defensemen on our team both on and off the ice. He’s going to be counted on to show the way and be a pro. Will defends very hard and that’s something that we need in this division.”
