Earlier today, the Savannah Ghost Pirates added NCAA defenseman Josh Luedtke to their roster. Immediately following the signing, Savannah has placed Luedtke on reserve. For the last four seasons, Luedtke has been a staple in his home state of Minnesota, playing for St Cloud State University. During his time playing for St Cloud State, Luedtke appeared in 138 games and scored 12 goals with 32 assists, totaling 44 points. The 5’9 defenseman does have some hardware in his trophy case, having won a title with St Cloud State for the 2022-2023 season and winning the Minnesota High School State Championship in 2018.
Prior to his time with St Cloud State, Luedtke spent two seasons with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL. The 2020-2021 season showcased Luedtke’s ability to distribute the puck when he tallied 18 assists in 48 games. In his 93 regular-season games in the USHL, the right-shot defenseman had four goals and 38 assists, totaling 42 points for the Buccaneers. Luedtke’s best statistical season came in 2018-2019, where he captained his high school team while posting 36 points in 25 games, including 11 goals. The 24-year-old Minnetonka, Minnesota native will join the Ghost Pirates amid the playoff hunt. Savannah is desperately trying to claw their way back into the final playoff spot in their division with next to no time left in the season and will likely be aiming to develop Luedtke into a contributor in their lineup. The Ghost Pirates also placed defenseman Dilan Savenkov on the 3-Day IR.
