The Rapid City Rush are hitting the road this week to take on the Idaho Steelheads in Boise, Idaho.
Last Week
The Rapid City Rush were at home last week where they took on the Wichita Thunder. The Rush ended up losing 2-3 in a shootout on Thursday night before losing 2-9 on Friday night. The Rush were then able to break their seven-game losing streak on Saturday night with Brett Davis scoring the game-winning goal in overtime, pushing the Rush past the Thunder in a 3-2 win.
The Idaho Steelheads were also at home last week where they took on the Tulsa Oilers. The Steelheads were able to win 6-4 on Wednesday night. But they lost 4-5 in overtime on Friday night and then lost 2-3 on Saturday night.
Incoming Stats
The Rush and Steelheads have already met five times this season, where the Rush have won three of the five matchups. Earlier this season, the Rush were able to sweep the Steelheads in Boise for the first time.
The Rapid City Rush are entering this series with a record of 3-7-1-0 on the road this season and an overall record of 6-13-2-3. All three road wins for the Rush this season have come in Boise, Idaho. They are currently converting at 14.3% on the power play (23rd) and 82.9% on the penalty kill (14th). The Rush are averaging 31.71 shots per game but are also allowing an average of 32.46 shots against per game. They are averaging 2.20 goals per game while allowing an average of 3.71 goals against per game.
The Idaho Steelheads are coming into the series with a home record of 6-5-2-0 and an overall record of 12-10-2-0. The Steelheads are converting at 18.1% on the power play (14th) and have a penalty kill rate of 84.0% (12th). They are averaging 3.63 goals per game while allowing an average of 3.25 goals against per game. The Steelheads are averaging 33.13 shots per game and allowing an average of 33.96 shots against per game.
Three Players to Watch
The three players to watch for the Steelheads are Connor MacEachern, Matt Register, and Hank Crone. MacEachern is currently third among all rookies in points with his 22 points. MacEachern also leads all rookies with his 12 goals. Matt Register is currently tied for third in assists in the league with his 20 assists. Register is also third among defensemen in points with his 22 and is tied for first among defensemen in assists. Hank Crone currently leads the league in points with his 32 points in 24 games. Crone is also tied for second in the league in assists with his 22.
The three players to watch for the Rush are Ryan Wagner, Brett Davis, and Connor Mylymok. Ryan Wagner currently leads the Rush in goals and points with his ten goals and eight assists for 18 points. Wagner is coming into the series with a very hot stick after a six-point series where he had four goals and two assists against the Thunder. Brett Davis is currently second on the Rush in goals, assists, and points with his seven goals and nine assists for 16 points. Davis is also coming in with a hot stick after having five points against the Thunder. Davis had one goal and four assists with his goal being the overtime winner on Saturday.
The third player to watch for the Rush is forward Connor Mylymok, who spent some time with Idaho last season. Mylymok’s father, Jeremy Mylymok, also has his number in the rafters at the Steelheads’ arena. With all of Mylymok’s connections to the Steelheads and Idaho, he should have a little extra fire coming into the series.
The Rush and Steelheads will kick off their series on Wednesday, December 18th, and will then continue the series on Friday, December 20th. The two teams will then wrap up their series on Saturday, December 21st. Puck drop will be at 7:10 pm MT all three nights.
