The Kansas City Mavericks (28-11-4-1) are set to face their Mountain Division rivals, the Allen Americans (13-24-7-1), for the seventh time this season. In their last seven meetings, the Mavericks have dominated, winning six of the seven matchups. Tonight’s matchup occurs at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas, with Jack LaFontaine starting in the net for the Mavericks and Dylan Wells in the net for the Allen Americans.

First Period

The first period kicked off with excitement as the Mavericks’ Chase Spencer found the back of the net at 7:18, assisted by Nolan Sullivan and David Cotton. The next goal came at 15:07 by Cade Borchardt, assisted by Max Andreev and Justin MacPherson. As the period neared its end, Damien Giroux found the back of the net at 18:59, with assists from Luke Loheit and Chase Spencer, closing the period with the Mavericks leading 3-0.

Second Period

The second period opened with an early goal by the Americans’ Brayden Watts, who scored less than two minutes in with an assist from Mark Duarte. However, penalties were rampant in the second period, leading to multiple power play opportunities for both teams. At 13:07, an altercation between Mavericks Daniel Amesbury and Americans Cole Fraser led to five-minute major penalties for roughing with an added two minutes for interference on Fraser, which created a power-play opportunity for the Mavericks, leading to a goal by Damien Giroux at 14:53, assisted by David Cotton and Justin MacPherson. A roughing minor by Brayden Watts led to a power play goal by Casey Carreau at 18:59, assisted by Max Andreev and Marcus Crawford, ending the second period with Mavericks dominating 5-1.

Third Period

The third period started with just as many fireworks, with a tripping minor by Mavericks David Cotton less than one minute into the period. However, the Americans were unable to capitalize on the power-play advantage. Shortly after, the Americans’ Patrick Polino was penalized for slashing, giving the Mavericks another power play opportunity. Justin MacPherson capitalized on the advantage, scoring with assists from Charlie Wright and David Cotton. Closing out the period, the Mavericks’ Chase Spencer was called for a slashing minor, giving the Americans a power play opportunity, which they converted into a goal by Harrison Blaisdell with less than a minute remaining. JC Brassard and Liam Gorman assisted with that goal. Despite this, the Mavericks secured a commanding 6-2 victory by the end of the period.

Tonight’s game marked a milestone for Cade Borchardt; he has reached fifth in the Maverick’s history with 55 goals scored. Borchardt has 50 points for the year, 28 goals, and 22 assists. Jack LaFontaine stopped 20 out of 22 shots on goal to help lead the Mavericks to victory.  The Mavericks maintain their top spot in the Mountain Division with 63 points, with the Tahoe Knight Monsters and the Tulsa Oilers trailing closely behind.
