Adirondack Thunder forward Shaw Boomhower has announced that he’s hanging up the skates after six seasons in the ECHL. Boomhower signed with Adirondack last off-season but only appeared in 18 games due to a knee injury. Despite an injury-riddled career, he would go out on a high note as he scored the game-winning goal in his first game back from injury. He finished his final season with two goals and three assists for five points. Boomhower will not play in the Thunder’s season finale in Maine on Sunday.

“Ya just wanted to finish off strong, this is likely my last year with all my injuries. It’s nice to get in the lineup and Pete’s been helping me out and Bergy and Jazz and Manner, they’ve all helped me get to where I need to be to finish off the season”

Boomhower, 26, played in 113 ECHL games and has played with the Cincinnati Cyclones, Wheeling Nailers, Kalamazoo Wings, and Adirondack Thunder. He would put up 14 goals and 19 assists for 33 points, and 384 PIMs. The 6’1, 220lb forward has also seen action in nine Kelly Cup Playoff games, putting up one assist during his career. Throughout his six-year career, Shaw Boomhower did not play more than 31 games in a single season. The Belleville, Ontario native played a rough and tumble style of game during his career and was always willing to drop the gloves. Prior to going pro, Boomhower spent two seasons in the OHL with the Mississauga Steelheads and Ottawa 67’s, where he put up 16 goals and 17 assists for 33 points. He would lead the league in PIMs (30) during the 2017 OHL Playoffs.
