The ECHL Department of Player’s Safety has announced that Adirondack Thunder forward Shaw Boomhower has been suspended for two games and fined an undisclosed amount for his actions in Adirondack’s first pre-season game vs. Reading Royals. Boomhower appeared to have said something to the Reading bench at the 15:50 mark of the third period and was assessed a game misconduct. He will miss both games this weekend vs. the Norfolk Admirals. The first two suspensions the league has handed out this season have gone to Adirondack.
This is another big blow for Adirondack, as they will now be without Boomhower and Darian Skeoch, who was suspended earlier in the week for his actions in the pre-season game at Reading. Norfolk has always been a team that plays physically, and they showed that last year as they led the league in penalties.
The 25-year-old forward is entering his seventh season in the league as he’s put up 12 goals and 16 assists for 28 points in 95 games along with 332 penalty minutes. He has one assist and 44 penalty minutes in nine career Kelly Cup Playoff Games. This is a rough start for the Belleville, Ontario native, who has been plagued with injuries over the past few seasons and is looking to revive his game with the Thunder. Prior to going pro, he spent two seasons in the OHL with the Mississauga Steelheads and Ottawa 67’s, where he put up 16 goals and 17 assists for 33 points in 99 games. He would lead the OHL with 30 penalty minutes during the 2017 OHL Playoffs.
